West Ham lost 2-1 away to the Greek side a fortnight ago but their win at the London Stadium put them level on nine points with second-placed Freiburg, who crushed bottom side Backa Topola 5-0. "If I was being honest, I don’t think we made enough chances or opportunities and I need to look to see why that was the case," West Ham manager David Moyes said. The West Ham fans then held their breath late on as the visitors nearly equalised when Mady Camara's close-range header struck the post when he should have scored. Marseille secured a second victory with their win in Athens thanks to goals from Chancel Mbemba and Ismaila Sarr. The Italians are unbeaten in Group D on 10 points, three ahead of Sporting who beat 10-man Rakow Czestochowa 2-1.

WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. has stopped issuing export licenses for most civilian firearms and ammunition for 90 days for all non-governmental users, the Commerce Department said on Friday, citing national security and foreign policy interests. The Commerce Department declined to comment beyond the posting on its website. U.S. companies that sell firearms, including Sturm Ruger & Co., Smith & Wesson Brands and Vista Outdoor, could be impacted by the export ban. Atalanta fans take detour to salute their ex-player Ilicic
  + stars: | 2023-10-26 | by ( ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +1 min
Ex-players can come in for many different forms of treatment from their former fans, but Josip Ilicic, who spent five years at Atalanta, is still very much in the hearts of the club's supporters. Ilicic left the club in August, 2022, his contract terminated by mutual agreement, after the player had struggled for some time with mental health issues. Ilicic joined his former club NK Maribor a month after leaving Atalanta, and the fans from Bergamo arrived at the club's training ground on Thursday morning to surprise the 35-year-old Slovenian. Two buses arrived, carrying 120 fans who had left Italy at midnight, and there were handshakes, hugs and chants for the beloved player, and plenty of photos taken with a visibly emotional and happy Ilicic. The fans left him a present of the banner they had used on that farewell night in Bergamo last year, and Ilicic also confirmed he will be present at Atalanta's game with Sturm Graz later on Thursday night.

My Favorite Primer Is Like a Magic Eraser for Fine Lines

I like to keep my beauty routine super simple, so my take always was: But it’s an extra step! The best part came next: My usual foundation glided on top of the primer and almost hovered above my skin without sinking into my (let’s call them fine) lines. I love that the primer solves an annoying beauty problem: foundation drying on the skin and turning cakey as the day goes on. (Or explore new entries to the line, Vitamin Enriched Skin Tint With SPF 15 and Pressed Powder, which are on my shopping to-do list.) But if you have normal or dry skin and want your makeup to last and not turn too matte, it’s a real find.

These four trends are shaping the gun industry
  + stars: | 2023-08-27 | by ( Stefan Sykes | ) www.cnbc.com   time to read: +7 min
Here are four trends that are shaping the gun industry today:Market normalizationSeveral companies in the gun market are slowing down production and slashing prices as they combat material cost increases and waning demand for their weapons. Gun sales typically see a spike during presidential elections, Dionisio added. Investors in Biofire include venture capitalist Ron Conway and Peter Thiel's Founders Fund Biofire's smart gun comes as gun manufacturers increasingly look for different materials and technologies to make their products more appealing to consumers. "Smart guns can ensure that guns are accessible by their owners and no one else," said Nick Suplina, senior vice president for law and policy at Everytown, who has tested Biofire's smart gun. First-time gun purchasers during the pandemic, according to the study, were younger than previous, pre-pandemic U.S. gun owners.

REUTERS/Bryan Woolston/File PhotoBOSTON, July 24 (Reuters) - The Mexican government on Monday urged a U.S. appeals court to revive a $10 billion lawsuit seeking to hold U.S. gun manufacturers responsible for facilitating the trafficking of weapons to drug cartels across the U.S.-Mexico border. Circuit Court of Appeals in Boston questioned whether a lower-court judge wrongly concluded that a U.S. law barred Mexico from suing Smith & Wesson Brands (SWBI.O), Sturm, Ruger & Co (RGR.N) and others. "What we want is an injunction to make these defendants start paying attention to their distribution systems," he said. "You have licensed manufacturers that sell to licensed distributors that sell to licensed retailers that sell to individuals who satisfy the requirements of federal law, but some of them happen to be straw purchasers," he said.

The Trump Indictment Is Trouble for Both Parties

The criminal indictment of a former president has pushed the U.S. into unexplored territory. There is no good precedent for how this will play out. But amid the Sturm und Drang of America’s broken politics, some things are becoming clearer. Many Democrats wisely are refusing to talk about Donald Trump’s indictment. Tuesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters, “It’s an ongoing case, so we’re just not going to comment.”

Mexico launches appeal in suit against U.S. gun makers
  + stars: | 2023-03-16 | by ( Sarah Morland | ) www.reuters.com   time to read: +2 min
MEXICO CITY, March 15 (Reuters) - Mexico has filed an appeal in a civil lawsuit against U.S.-based gun manufacturers, it said on Wednesday, looking to crack down on the trafficking of weapons to powerful drug cartels. A U.S. judge in September dismissed the $10 billion lawsuit seeking to hold U.S. gun makers responsible for facilitating the trafficking of deadly weapons across the border. The issue of gun violence in Mexico has drawn new scrutiny on both sides of the border in recent days following the cartel-linked kidnapping of four Americans in the northern state of Tamaulipas, during which two of them and a Mexican bystander were killed. Mexico is not the only country in the region to be plagued by gun violence. Reporting by Sarah Morland; Editing by Robert BirselOur Standards: The Thomson Reuters Trust Principles.
How 31 Presidential Budgets Compared With RealityYear of budget 1994 Deficits Budgets Reality Spending Taxes and other revenueYou have probably heard of the main reason for this: The president’s budget has no force of law. But the president’s budget is often not predictive for another reason: Unexpected, cataclysmic events end up changing the trajectory of federal spending far more than shifts in any line item in a budget table. Bill ClintonDeficits Budgets Reality Spending Taxes and other revenueMr. Clinton’s budgets matched actual spending and revenue far more than those of the presidents who followed him. Another was the Budget Control Act, a bipartisan bill that reduced federal spending across the government that Mr. Obama had not proposed. And as we’re often reminded during budget season, budgets are also important because they tell you about a president’s goals and values.

American Outdoor Brands and Vista Outdoor have reported weaker sales in their shooting categories of late. But the past year has seen gun sales fall precipitously as demand wanes. Sturm, Ruger & Company did not immediately respond to CNBC's request for comment. Other major gun companies including American Outdoor Brands and Vista Outdoor, which purchased Remington Ammunition out of bankruptcy in late 2020, are seeing similar declines in gun sales. Vista Outdoor reported a sales decline of 4% to $432 million for its sporting products, which includes its Remington acquisition.
Focusing on environmental, social or governance-related issues, ESG in industry parlance, could hit returns to investors, critics said. Other states followed, with Texas accusing BlackRock and banks including Bank of America (BAC.N) of 'boycotting' fossil fuel companies in the transition to a greener economy. WHY IT MATTERSThe criticism comes at a critical time for global climate efforts. A landmark U.N. report earlier this year said time was running out to cap global warming at 1.5 degrees Celsius by 2050. With a number of investigations into finance-linked ESG activities still in train across various states, the prospect of a let-up in pressure in 2023 is slim.
